Lumbar Laminectomy for Spinal Stenosis - Results
This section provides patient self-reported outcome data on 879 of 971 consecutive patients of Dr Sears who underwent a decompressive laminectomy for lumbar spinal canal stenosis between November 2007 and May 2023, and who had completed pre-operative questionnaires.
Laminectomy for spinal stenosis involves the removal of bone and/or ligament that has built up as a result of degeneration and is placing pressure on lumbar spinal nerves. The laminectomy may be done at one or more levels.
In some patients, associated vertebral instability or spinal deformity, may require a realignment and stabilisation/fusion procedure to be carried out in addition to the decompression provided by the laminectomy. This section provides the results of patients who underwent laminectomies only and does not include the results of patients who underwent laminectomy with additional fusion surgery.
